Come Home: Building Bridges to Faith with Tauren Wells
I recently had the privilege of sitting down with a truly one-of-a-kind leader and artist, Tauren Wells. If you've been in a church, you've likely found yourself singing one of his soul-touching melodies. From chart-topping hits like "Hills and Valleys" and "Echo" to the more recent "Joy in the Morning", Tauren's platinum touch in the music industry is evident. With a whopping 10 Grammy nominations and eight GMA Dove Awards, it’s an understatement to say he’s accomplished.
However, this episode dives deeper than just his musical milestones. We discussed his transition from being an award-winning songwriter and performer to his role as a church planter, aiming to help individuals connect with their authentic God-given identity.
One of my favorite parts of the conversation was when we delved into his song "Come Home" from the "Joy in the Morning" album. Tauren opened up about the complexities of church leadership, acknowledging the reality of 'church hurt'. He firmly believes in the church's mission but doesn't shy away from addressing the imperfections that exist within. The heart behind "Come Home" is about acknowledging the wounds many have faced in religious spaces, whether from leadership or fellow attendees.
Tauren emphasized that the song's primary message is to build a bridge of understanding and healing for those who’ve felt hurt. He spoke about the love of God, always waiting with open arms for the 'prodigal heart' to return. The powerful message behind "Come Home" is not just a good one for those who find themselves confused about what to do after religious disappointment. It's a mission statement for pastors looking to help prodigals find their way home.
